FIXTURE ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

Project Overview: Strategic Expansion of Foot Locker Europe’s Apparel and Footwear Offering (Q3 2021)

During the third quarter of 2021, I was entrusted with leading one of Foot Locker Europe’s most significant strategic initiatives as part of the company’s upcoming five-year growth plan. The project focused on expanding and elevating the apparel offering while optimising the presentation of brand partners within the footwear walls. A key objective was to ensure that the enhancements did not necessitate the creation of a new store concept or require hard-install elements, thereby maintaining operational flexibility and adaptability for future iterations.

Key Deliverables and Outcomes:

  • - Capital Investment: Allocated 3.5M for floor fixtures and 1.2M for footwear wall elevation to modernise the in-store experience and enhance brand visibility.
  • - Profitability and Space Optimisation: Improved fixture density and increased revenue per square foot, driving overall store profitability.
  • - Elevated Brand Partner Presentation: Implemented a refined strategy to showcase strategic brand partners more effectively, enhancing their visibility and appeal within the footwear walls.
  • - Fixture Density and Layout Efficiency: Maintained the existing store layout while increasing fixture density, ensuring optimal use of available space without requiring additional square footage.
  • - Mid-Aisle Fixture Program: Introduced a mid-aisle fixture initiative to support a 30% increase in apparel SKU count, broadening the product assortment and driving category growth.
  • - Footwear and Apparel Test Zones: Piloted destination zones for footwear and apparel, focusing on strategic product placement to maximise customer engagement and sales potential.
  • - Cost Optimisation: Leveraged existing in-store metalworking equipment to reduce manufacturing costs and streamline staff training, ensuring seamless integration with current operations.
  • - Efficiency & Sustainability: Minimised resource expenditure and supported sustainable practices by repurposing existing tools, aligning with fiscal and environmental goals.
  • - Scalable Implementation: Enabled a cost-effective and efficient rollout of fixtures across the global store network, maintaining high standards of quality and functionality.

Expected Return on Investment (ROI):

  • - Sales Growth: Anticipated a 25% increase in overall sales, with 90% of this growth driven by strategic brand partnerships, contributing an estimated $80M in Year 1.
  • - Brand Visibility and Footwear Growth: Projected a 5% growth in strategic brands’ footwear business on a full-year basis, equating to $65M in incremental revenue, achieved solely through enhanced presentation and visibility without additional space allocation.

Enhanced Fixture Rollout

EMEA & APAC

Following the successful development and testing of the new fixture concepts, they were integrated into a comprehensive store refit program across Foot Locker’s EMEA and APAC regions. This rollout encompassed both the Willowbrook and Arsenal store concepts, ensuring a consistent and elevated in-store experience across all key markets.

Franchise Partner Expansion

The fixture concept was further extended to Foot Locker’s franchise partners, including the Alshaya Group in the UAE and the Fox Group in Israel. This collaboration ensured that the elevated brand presentation and operational efficiencies achieved in company-owned stores were replicated across franchise locations, maintaining a cohesive brand identity and customer experience globally.

ROLLOUT GUIDELINES

To ensure cost efficiency and operational effectiveness, a detailed set of video and booklet guidelines was developed, complemented by a series of webinar training and discussions sessions. These resources were designed to provide installation and store teams with comprehensive training and ongoing support, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence required to successfully execute the fixture rollout across their respective regions and stores. By delivering clear, accessible, and standardised training materials, the initiative minimised costs while maximising the clarity and consistency of the implementation process.
